Description
The Porsche Cayman. When the second-generation Boxster went into production, Porsche decided to produce a coupé based on this model. The latest iterations, such as the 718 4.0 GTS, GT4 and GT4 RS, have been further developed into compact supercars featuring the naturally aspirated 4.0-litre flat-six engine from the 911 GT3. The combination of this unique power unit, the mid-engine layout and the limited production numbers makes this sports car a particularly exclusive member of the Porsche family. We currently have an exceptionally fine example of the 718 GTS 4.0 in our Selected Classics collection.
The GT Silver Metallic paintwork, gleaming like new, contrasts beautifully with the satin black of the GTS exterior styling package. The stunning 20-inch GTS wheels, also finished in satin black, feature brand-new Goodyear tyres, naturally with N-specification. The leather/Alcantara interior, with polished aluminium trim and contrasting white stitching, completes the picture. Here is a Cayman 718 GTS 4.0 just as you would want it. First-hand paintwork all round. With just 18,900 kilometres on the clock and a complete and verifiable service history, carried out at the Porsche dealer. It also comes with a long list of extremely expensive original Porsche factory options, for which I would refer you to the overview in the advertisement.
Under the boot lid lies the impressive 4.0-litre boxer engine, which delivers 400 hp and revs effortlessly towards 8,000 rpm. The result is linear power delivery, immediate throttle response and a characteristic Porsche sound that is becoming increasingly rare in modern sports cars. The combination of this naturally aspirated engine with the rare, extremely smooth and direct-shifting six-speed manual gearbox gives the Cayman GTS 4.0 a perfect balance between pure driving pleasure and everyday practicality.
Once you’ve carefully warmed the car up to operating (oil) temperature, rev it once to nearly 8,000 rpm with the exhaust open – preferably in a tunnel with the window slightly open – and you’ll be sold. Unique, addictive and, sadly, a dying breed. More so than the hardcore GT4 and GT4RS models, this is the ultimate driver’s car for everyday use. Thanks to its mid-engine layout, this model is renowned for its exceptional balance and steering precision. The taut sports suspension also offers ample comfort, thanks to the highly efficient shock absorbers. Combined with the superb sports seats and the perfect driving position, nothing stands in the way of a European tour with mandatory stopovers in the Alps and the Pyrenees. The Cayman has now been taken out of production. Whether there will be a successor at all – and when – is highly uncertain. All the more reason to get your hands on one of the last ultimate Caymans. According to experts, one of the best-driving Porsches ever.
