Description
The Porsche Boxster. A welcome addition to the Selected Classics collection. First introduced by Porsche in 1996 as the 986. Since then, Porsche has developed the Boxster into a fully-fledged member of the Porsche sports car division, and it now stands more alongside the 911 than below it. It has evolved from the original Boxster (986) through the intermediate models (987 and 981) to the current model (718). The 981 in particular, with its naturally aspirated six-cylinder engine, is a hit both visually and technically. The very stable resale value of this model confirms this. We now have another superb example of the Boxster 981 in our Selected Classics collection – and in the highly sought-after GTS specification, no less.
Naturally, this Boxster GTS comes with a complete and verifiable service history, carried out exclusively at the Porsche dealership. Not only does it have a stamped service book, but also the corresponding invoices. It has been cherished by its first and only owner for 97,000 kilometres. The original purchase invoice is included. In virtually new condition with almost no signs of wear. The deep-gloss black metallic paintwork, combined with the black full-leather interior – including leather on the dashboard, centre console and door panels – with contrasting yellow seatbelts and dials, and the high-gloss polished aluminium trim. The 20-inch GTS wheels, painted in the body colour, are fitted with top-quality Pirelli tyres all round. And not to be forgotten: the GTS exterior package (Porsche Exclusive), painted in high-gloss black. Timelessly beautiful. Tastes may differ, but we consider the 981 to be the most beautiful Boxster series to date. The car is also equipped with an extensive list of original Porsche options, worth as much as a nearly new mid-range car. I’ll mention only the most distinctive features here: yellow seatbelts and dials, a high-gloss painted GTS exterior package (Porsche Exclusive), Dynamic engine mounts (PADM), variable dampers (PASM), Full Map navigation with Bluetooth phone and audio streaming, and a Bose audio upgrade (PCM), adjustable sports exhaust, Sport Chrono Plus, and Porsche Torque Vectoring (limited-slip differential). Driving this Boxster is a constant joy. The sound of the naturally aspirated 6-cylinder boxer engine, combined with the special GTS adjustable sports exhaust, is unrivalled. Deep and rich at low revs, becoming full-bodied and warm – typical of a flat-six – in the mid-rev range, and culminating in the ultimate sound of a racing engine at over 6,500 rpm. Almost addictively beautiful. The razor-sharp, extremely fast yet smooth gear changes of the 7-speed PDK gearbox, the 330 pk on a kerb weight of 1,450 kg, the razor-sharp yet perfectly balanced steering, the fantastic brakes and, last but not least, the unrivalled chassis balance. Truly an incomparable and magnificent driving experience.
